Itinerary

  1. Day 1: Arrive in Tbilisi

    Arrive in Tbilisi, Georgia's charming capital perched on the river Kura. The Extreme Bike Tours will pick you up from the airport and transfer you to your hotel. Time to explore, let the tour begin.

  2. Day 2: Tbilisi to Oni (250 kilometers / 155 miles)

    Today you all head to the garage early in the morning and get on your trusty steeds so that you face less traffic leaving the city. You head west on curvy backroads to the Didgori monument. A huge hill covered in massive steel swords dedicated to one of the most famous battles in Georgian history. Further down the road, you head to the small town of Gori, a place best known for being the birthplace of Joseph Stalin. Here you have the option to go into the museum.   3. Day 3: Oni to Tskaltubo (120 kilometers / 75 miles)

    Today, you ride on well-paved curvy roads all the way to Tskaltubo. A half-deserted town that is full of the sanatoriums of the Soviet era. Tonight you stay at a giant partly renovated sanatorium. After a long day's ride, you can hop in the pool there and then take a walking tour of the many abandoned sanatoriums and bathhouses in the area. Be sure to bring your camera!

  4. Day 4: Tskaltubo to Guria (120 kilometers / 75 miles)

    Today is a short fun day. You take twists all the way to Bakhmaro, located above the clouds at 2050 meters! Considered one of the most beautiful villages in western Georgia, Bakmanro is rich in history and most famous for the healing qualities of the fresh mountain air. You all stay at a lovely little guesthouse tonight and enjoy the views as the sun goes down.

  5. Day 5: Guria to Batumi (120 kilometers / 75 miles)

    Today is beach day. You wake early and head to Batumi. Don't forget your swimmys. Today you stay at a seaside resort and enjoy the Black Sea. Later in the evening, you can visit the fish market and take a walkabout exploring the city's beautiful architecture and well-manicured park before making camp for the night.

  6. Day 6 and 7: Batumi to Mestia (250 kilometers / 155 miles)

    Whoa! Today is gonna blow your mind! Crazy backroads to the highland townlet of Mestia (2000 meters). Alpine meadows, glaciers, massive defensive towers, and the picturesque village of Ushguli. Ushguli is one of the highest altitude continuously inhabited settlements in Europe! The Extreme Bike Tours team guarantees you've never seen anything like it! You have a free day here to explore the surrounding areas.   7. Day 8: Mestia to Kutaisi (200 kilometers / 124 miles)

    You wake early and if weather permits you will ride to the Zagari pass (2620 meters). The journey offers astounding views of mountain peaks, luscious valleys, and the remains of pre-historic glaciers. There is a 60-kilometer section off-road here that isn’t too challenging. All previous guests have said that it’s a phenomenal ride. Lots of photo opportunities to be had! You then head south to Kutaisi where you stay at a nice hotel overlooking the city. The best part is there is a bar on the roof!

  8. Day 9: Kutaisi to Vardzia (240 kilometers / 149 miles)

    Heading south today on a big chunk of off-road over mountain ridges. It's a lesser-known trail that your group usually will have all to yourselves. You make your way to the cave town of Vardzia. Once there, you park the bikes and head into the mountains. It's easy to get lost in there! Over 500 caves in total it takes almost two hours just to go through the main section. Tonight you celebrate your last night on the tour at riverside cottages eating freshly caught trout and drinking locally made wine.

  9. Day 10: Vardzia to Tbilisi (230 kilometers / 143 miles)

    Last day on the road, you ride east to Tbilisi. You stay on the easy twisty paved backroads avoiding all highways passing vast lakes and small villages on the way. You finally arrive back at the garage where you crack open some tasty beverages and bask in the glory of an adventure well earned. Congratulations! You made it!

Accommodation

The accommodation in Georgia is in hotels and guesthouses. In most of these there will be an option for the single supplement but in a couple of the smaller villages this will not be possible. Hospitality here is legendary so you will be well taken care of.
