Cape Town - Namaqualand - Northern Cape - Paterson - Mossel Bay, South Africa; Fish River Canyon - Seeheim - Windhoek - Otjiwarongo - Rundu - Katima Mulilo, Namibia; Victoria Falls, Zambia; Seurle, Botswana;
You will arrive in Cape Town and take the delivery of rental bikes. Spend the rest of the day taking in a couple of sights in and around Cape Town. You will have a group evening meal with a chance to get to know your fellow adventurers and guide. Any doubts, concerns, or questions should be asked at this time.
You will leave Cape Town and head for Namibia. Tonight will be spent on the West Coast of South Africa in Namaqualand. This area is well-known for its carpets of wildflowers in the spring. The landscape will start to change dramatically as the closer you get to Namibia the more moon-like it becomes, so make sure your camera is charged and ready.
Today’s ride takes you to the world’s second largest canyon, the Fish River Canyon. Take in this spectacle at the viewing sites and marvel at the unique landscape. Try to remember the last time you felt miles from home and double that feeling.
Today is another early start but the ride is truly scenic. Today, you will head further north to Seeheim. This is a settlement in the ǁKaras Region of southern Namibia. The only notable structures in Seeheim today are the hotel and the railway station but the remoteness and sheer vastness reminds you there is nowhere like Namibia; as only a handful of people live there. As you travel, the landscape changes continually. You have to keep reminding yourself that you are still in the same country.
If Namibia is Africa for beginners, then Windhoek is very much its capital in more than name only. It's the sort of place that divides travellers, with those who love it for the respite it offers from the rigours of life on the African road facing off against those who find it a little too 'Western' for their African tastes. And they're both right but the city is only the gateway to the Caprivi Strip and Zambia.
Today is a short ride from Windhoek to your next lodge. Unload the luggage as you arrive and for those who wish to, they can visit the Namibian cheetah conservation for a chance to get up close to the fastest land animal and Africa’s most endangered big cat. You will learn about the cheetahs’ habits and the guide will explain the work being done to keep Namibia the country with the highest number of wild cheetah.
From Rundu, you will continue on your journey, travelling along the narrow Caprivi Strip. You might have noticed the Caprivi Strip on a globe or atlas; it’s that 280-mile-long panhandle of Namibia stretching improbably eastward toward Zimbabwe. Of all the weird African borders caused by the colonial carve-up of the 19th century, Caprivi is one of the nuttiest and one of the most glamorously named, since it’s also been called “Itenge” or “the Okavango Panhandle”; adventurous sounding names straight from a pulp novel or Indiana Jones movie. But the Caprivi Strip’s odd past and turbulent present
Today, you will head for Zambia, travelling through the Caprivi Game Park where you could be sharing the road with a variety of animals. Don’t be surprised to see elephants or giraffes crossing your path. Tonight is spent in the Namibian town of Katima Mulilo, on the banks of the mighty Zambezi River.
Today, you reach your hotel on the way to the South African border crossing. Tonight is all about getting enough rest for the next 2 days involve major miles.
Today, you ride the spectacular garden route to Mossel Bay with a chance to see dolphins and whales in the bay. Take pictures, relax, and reflect on the last two weeks of adrenaline-filled fun.
Tonight, you will arrive back at your start with time to visit the African penguin colony along the way. Tell your tales, share your pictures, and share a drink with your new friends.
The bikes are returned and your flights depart from Cape Town International Airport (CPT).
