Itinerary

1. Day 1: Galle Face, Colombo

   You will meet others in the hotel bar in the Galle Face Hotel, one of the iconic hotels of Ceylon, steeped in colonial history it is a fitting place to start this tour.

2. Day 2: Kandy

   To get to the start of the ride, you catch the train to Kandy. This is one of the classic train journeys of the world as it creeps into the hill country. Kandy is one of the ancient capitals of Sri Lanka and home to the Temple of the Tooth. You arrive with some time in the afternoon to explore the city.

3. Day 3: Nuwara Eliya via Hatton

   A journey through tea today as you wind your way through the highlands on the way to ‘Little England’ as Nuwara Eliya is known. Cool temperatures and a view down the first fairway at the famous old golf club set you up for an evening drink at the bar.

4. Day 4: Knuckles

   Sweeping bends then out into the wilderness today riding over mainly great but remote roads before heading to the luxury of Madulkelle Tea and Eco Lodge and a view of the mountains you have just ridden through.

5. Day 5: Dambulla

   Today you head over the northern Knuckles through stunning landscapes en route to the most famous sites in Sri Lanka located in the cultural triangle. From here you are out of the hill country and into the cultural triangle and the East.

6. Day 6: Sigiriya and Polonnarawa

   Now you are in the cultural triangle, you have the chance and the time to explore the sites of the area. Starting on the rock of Sigiriya to the cave temples of Dambulla and the sprawling ruins of Polonnaruwa this is where it all happened. You explore the area on the bikes staying in Polonnaruwa.

7. Day 7: Trincomalee

   To the coast and lunch in Passikudah before heading on to Trincomalee, once described as the finest harbor in the world. Here, you can visit the beautiful old fort and temples within.

8. Day 8: Jaffna

   Following the roads up the East coast you head for the most northerly city in the country Jaffna. Jaffna Fort was built by the Portuguese in the 17th century and later occupied by the Dutch and British.

9. Day 9: Jaffna (rest day)

   Here you have a rest day and a chance to explore the area or while away the day in the hotel. Jaffna has an old fort and a huge Hindu Temple to see.

10. Day 10: Wilpattu

    Heading south along the coast, you strike inland and towards Anuradhapura one of the Ancient Capitals of the country before diving into the wilds of Wilpattu National Park. The following morning, you will head out on a dawn safari. This is the home of the leopard.

11. Day 11: Kalpitiya

    Having returned from safari, after a late breakfast, you make the short ride to Kalpitiya.

12. Day 12: Galle Face

    You ride back to the city and the luxury of the Galle Face and dinner to digest the tour.

13. Day 13: Departure day

    Departure to the airport and onward travel. Extreme Bike Tours can change the tour itinerary without notice if required to deal with any issues that may arise in the countries they operate in, very often due to adverse weather conditions. The itinerary will not change much but if they can make it better they always will.

You will stay in unique and handpicked hotels. The accommodation in Sri Lanka is very varied from hotels to eco jungle lodges, with some really great places to stay. Please note in Nuwara Eliya in order to drink in the historic bar shoes and a collared shirt are required by the gentlemen.
