Itinerary

1. Day 1: Arrive at Colombo Airport and transfer to Negombo (15 kilometers / 10 miles)

   It is a short drive to the ancient port city of Negombo with its iconic Oruwa boats. You all meet at the hotel lobby and meet the team and the remaining participants. The hotel is in a beautiful setting, so you can either spend time relaxing on the lawns or take short walks into this bustling but picturesque city. The beach is close by, and sunsets are quite stunning. Enjoy a beer at one of the many beachside establishments and take in the charms of this enchanting island.

2. Day 2: Negombo - Kalpitiya (135 kilometers / 84 miles)

   You have an easy start today. Post a leisurely breakfast, you get acquainted with your motorcycles and begin your island adventure. It is a fairly straightforward ride on small country roads that allow you to understand the traffic and local driving conditions. Kalpitiya is a haven for kitesurfing, whale and dolphin spotting, and several tours operate in the region. It is an optional paid activity that Karma Yatri can help facilitate. Alternatively, relax = beach + sunset + beer.

3. Day 3: Kalpitiya - Sigiriya (160 kilometers / 100 miles)

   Today, you start traveling inland towards the historic and cultural center of Sri Lanka. Predominantly Buddhist architecture, scattered with Hindu influences from South India. The coming days showcase the rich and ancient cultural significance of this island nation in the history of the sub-continent. Note, all monument entries are to be paid at actuals.

4. Day 4: Sigiriya - Knuckles (100 kilometers / 63 miles)

   You start early today. They have a selection of three activities that you can choose from based on your interests and level of physical fitness. The Lion Rock, Dambulla caves, or a wildlife safari. Your riding kilometers today are low, but the diversity of riding tracks is sublime. From tiny mud paths through the interiors of national parks to stunning tarmac roads that twist into the highlands of Sri Lanka.

5. Day 5: Knuckles - Nuwara Eliya (120 kilometers / 75 miles)

   Another fantastic day of riding on forest trails and lush countryside, before you further ascent to the highlands and tea country. The landscape takes on a different quality where rolling hills are covered with a monoculture of lush green tea bushes, interspersed with lush ancient rainforests. Sri Lanka's colonial past is on clear display with the names and architecture evoking the English countryside.

6. Day 6: Nuwara Elliya - Ella (100 kilometers / 63 miles)

   You stay on small trails and hill country on your ride to Ella. You take advantage of the great motorcycling roads and off-beat trails, through a countryside that is almost dreamlike, with its rolling mists and cloud forests. You can take diversions to explore small country roads, ride to Lipton's seat, or spend part of the day at leisure. Sip endless cups of freshly brewed orange Pekoe tea or sit back with a gin tonic. Romanticize the pioneering spirit of the people who tamed these forests and created an economic boom in a region forgotten by time.

7. Day 7: Ella - Hambantota (100 kilometers / 63 miles)

   A road of a thousand turns, you descend the highlands through a series of never-ending switchbacks. You stay in a landscape of tea gardens, spice plantations, and deep forest country before reaching Yala National Park. It is probably the most popular national park in Sri Lanka, owing to its leopard population. However, it is high season, and these shy creatures can be quite elusive. They have the option of the morning (5:00 a.m.) jungle safaris, which take approximately four hours.

8. Day 8: Hambantota - Galle (130 kilometers / 81 miles)

   Your final ride of the day sees you back on the coastline. You stay close to the inner coast and pass by the many stunning beaches and touristy hubs of the island. The destination is the historic Galle fort, which makes a stunning backdrop to celebrate an epic adventure through this gorgeous island in the Indian Ocean.

9. Day 9: Depart Galle

   Post breakfast, the tour ends. You can either choose to take a car to Colombo airport, or if you have decided to spend a few more days in Sri Lanka, you can transfer to your next destination.
