Itinerary
Day 1
On trails in forests and farmland you head to the Khun Tan Range north of Chiang Mai. In the last village in the valley you fill up your tanks before you disappear in the mountains. Varied dual tracks, passing secluded settlements and coffee plantations, climb up to 1,450 msl to end high upon the Phrao Valley after 60 km. Back on tarmac you swing down 160 curves to Phrao, where you will stay for the first night.
Day 2
A day totally off the beaten tracks is waiting for you. You climb up in the mountains again along a quite steep and challenging hilltribe trail to circle Doi Mon Lan, with 1,695 msl, the highest peak of the Sri Lanna National Park. You will pass small settlements of Lahu, Lisu, and Akha hilltribes on this stunning loop along an old smugglers path to the Yunan Chinese village Huai Nam Khun deep in the Khun Tan mountains. After your lunch break in a little restaurant you ride along different trails back to the Doi Mon Lan and climb up the northern slope which takes you to the viewpoint on 1,500
Day 3
Your last tour day begins along dual tracks and a short but challenging sandy single trail across a mountain range south of the majestic Doi Luang Chiang Dao. This track ends at the Mae Taeng River and you follow the paved road on its banks through the 'Elephant Valley' of Mae Taman to Mae Taeng. You cross the northern Chiang Mai Valley to get to the hills on the east side. An off-road trip has to end on dirt roads! Enjoy your last kilometers with CHIANGMAI OUTDOOR TOURS on hidden trails in the hills of Chiang Mai with some fantastic views to the high Doi Suthep Mountain.
