Chiang Mai - Phrao - Chiang Dao - Pai - Burmese Border Experience riding on challenging off-road trails for those who consider themselves advanced and experienced riders. Discover old smuggler's paths and amazing Pai as you ride with the knowledgeable local tour guide and a western tour leader who will provide you with information and stories about the routes you take. Enjoy the exciting trails of Thailand that you will never forget!
You will be picked at your hotel in the city by car at 8AM. At Chiangmai Outdoor Tours's base out of town, we gear you up and we get on the bikes. Along trails in a teak forest and some quiet tarmac you head to huge mango and longan orchards at the foot of the Khun Tan Mountain Range. Dual tracks and a paved backroad across hilly farmland bring you to the small province town Phrao from where you continue on tarmac (as there is no other way) to get to todays destination Chiang Dao. But wait! There is a hilltribe village and an amazing dirt section through a bamboo forest which we will not miss.
You enter the Huai Nam Dang National Park and follow a steep curvy mountain road along the northern slopes of the majestic Doi Luang to the valley of Mueang Khong. It's time for some dirt again ! A dual track with a few river crossings and the steep ascent to Huai Nam Dang brings you to the famous Pai Road which we swing down to arrive at our destination Pai.
Leaving Pai, you ride across a mountain range to Wiang Haeng close to the Burmese Border. The 60 kilometer stretch is a mix of dirt and paved sections with only one little village on the way, so quite off the beaten tracks. From Wiang Haeng we have to chose our route to Mueang Khong, our last overnight. Depending on the level of the Mae Taeng River we can cross this river and chose the "Jungle Trail" or we ride along the longer "Doi Chang Route" which is partly quite steep and goes up to 1500 msl.
Let's beginn our last day with a river crossing and some shady offroad to reach the "Elephant Valley" on the banks of the Mae Taeng River which we follow on a small winding paved road to get to Mae Taeng and the Ping River. Here we will find a short but sometimes challenging dirt section before we pass the Mae Ngat Dam to reach the Buatong Waterfall. The last afternoon of the tour we will spend on dual tracks and single trails in the teak forest again before we finally get back to our base. Around 5PM our driver will bring you back to the city by car. Let's see how full your batteries still ar
